Simi Bhutani, an Associate at Akin Law Group, represents individuals in a wide variety of employment law matters, including negotiating contracts, severance agreements and restrictive covenants such as non-compete agreements, as well as advocating for victims of sexual harassment, hostile work environment, whistleblower retaliation, and unlawful discrimination on the basis of race, religion, creed, color, national origin, gender, age, disability, sexual orientation and pregnancy. She also represents workers in various industries who have been denied minimum wage and overtime pay in violation of federal and state labor laws. Ms. Bhutani is well-versed in federal and state labor and employment laws such as Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, Americans with Disabilities Act, Age Discrimination in Employment Act, Family Medical Leave Act, Fair Labor Standards Act and comparable state statutes.
Ms. Bhutani received her Bachelor’s Degree from Seton Hall University, graduating magna cum laude, and her Juris Doctorate from Hofstra University School of Law, where she earned distinctions in Family Law and Health Law and served as a judicial intern at the Nassau County District Court. Prior to joining Akin Law Group, Ms. Bhutani was an Associate at a boutique plaintiff-side law firm representing employees in class and individual litigation in all areas of employment law. She has participated in arbitration proceedings and mediation sessions before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) and JAMS.
Ms. Bhutani is committed to protecting workers’ rights and will vigorously pursue justice for employees subjected to discrimination, sexual harassment, retaliation, wrongful termination and other workplace violations. She is an active member of the New York City Bar Association and South Asian Bar Association and is fluent in Hindi.
